Evansville transfer F Gabriel Pozzato commits to Xavier

Evansville transfer F Gabriel Pozzato has committed to Xavier, On3 has learned. Pozzato averaged 14.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game as a freshman.
He played in 24 games for the Purple Aces during the 2024-25 season, starting in all of his appearances. His most impressive performance came against Murray State during a 78-74 win. Pozzato scored 29 points including four made three-pointers during the matchup. He would go on to score 20 or more point in seven of his appearances.
Before college, Pozzato was unranked in the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was an international recruit, playing for the NBA Global Academy in Rome before committing to play one season at Evansville.
He’s a highly-touted recruit out of the transfer portal, however, as he ranked as the No. 35 overall player in the current transfer portal class. Pozzato is also ranked as the No. 5 small forward.
As of Wednesday, March 26, over 1,250 Men’s College Basketball players have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. That number is expected to grow as the 2024-25 college basketball season has now concluded.
The transfer portal wire provides a real-time feed of player activity, including basic player profile information, transfer portal ranking and original On3 Industry recruiting ranking, as well as NIL valuation (name, image and likeness).

Xavier hired Richard Pitino as head coach
Xavier hired Richard Pitino as its next head coach last month. It was first reported by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. The son of Rick Pitino, he led New Mexico to the second round of the NCAA Tournament this year and will now replace Sean Miller.
This year marked New Mexico’s second consecutive March Madness appearance under Richard Pitino. The Lobos took down Marquette in the opening round to set up a showdown against Michigan State in the Round of 32. Although New Mexico got off to a strong start, the Spartans came back to knock the Lobos out of the field.
Pitino had been linked to multiple jobs this cycle, including another Big East opening at Villanova. Now, he’s getting ready to replace Miller at Xavier – and, as a result, coach in the same conference as his father.
