Report: Every SEC football team to play either Texas or Oklahoma in expanded 2024 slate
The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners are going to be introduced to the SEC in grand fashion come 2024.
The Longhorns and Sooners won’t have to wait long to get acquainted to their new conferences foes. The SEC is preparing to drop their 2024 college football schedule, and Peter Burns of ESPN shared some fascinating news regarding the two Big 12 additions.
According to Burns, each current SEC squad will play one of either Texas or Oklahoma once in 2024, meaning they’ll all have the chance to face off against a new opponent next season.
“BREAKING: Each of the SEC teams will play either Texas or Oklahoma once in the upcoming 2024 CFB season,” tweeted Burns. “So every SEC team will have Longhorns or Sooners on their 2024 schedule. Whether they are home or away announced later tonight on @SECNetwork. #SECThisMorning.”
That’s some big news ahead of the 2024 schedule release. Instead of having to wait a year or two to face off against a Big 12 export, each current SEC team will get their shot at either Texas or Oklahoma in their inaugural season. It should make for some awesome matchups.
Time will tell which teams get Texas and who faces off against Oklahoma, but either way it’ll be an exciting season in 2024 for the SEC.

Report: Texas to play rivals Texas A&M, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Georgia in first SEC season
Meanwhile, the 2024 SEC football schedule is set to be partially unveiled in a special on the SEC Network on Wednesday night, with the opponents being announced by the league. And some of the opponents are already leaking.
The conference will expand to 16 teams in 2024 as Oklahoma and Texas formally make their departure from the Big 12 to join the SEC. As a result, the 2024 SEC football schedule will look a little different. The league decided this spring not to expand to a nine-game conference slate just yet.
However, with the league remaining at eight games and still expanding, the traditional format of one permanent cross-division rival will be eschewed. In fact, the conference will release a schedule without divisions altogether, so it’ll be the first time in a long time we see more SEC East vs. SEC West matchups in the schedule.
Chip Brown of Horns247 reported a few of the Texas opponents on the 2024 SEC football schedule. The Longhorns will play road games at Arkansas and Texas A&M, as well as Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl and Georgia at home. That will give Texas quite the introduction to the league.
The full 2024 SEC football schedule reveal will begin at 7 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
