EYBL Session 2 Top Performers: Mackenzie Mgbako, Matas Buzelis, others
Indianapolis — The second live period of the summer tipped off this weekend and college coaches from all over the country flooded the courts to evaluate some top high school talent. On3 was on hand for the busy three-day event.
Here are your standouts from Saturday’s full day of action.
2023 4-star PF Sean Stewart
On3 Consensus: No. 24
Florida Rebels
Committed: Duke
Sean Stewart has been a double-double machine this EYBL season. In his first game Saturday, he posted 19 points (9-13 FG), and 18 rebounds. The Duke commit flat-out outworks and outhustles opponents. He does the little things that Jon Scheyer and Co. will love. Stewart gets after it on the defensive end, never backing down from a challenge, and never afraid to block a rising dunk. Offensively, he know’s what type of player he is; whether that’s backing you down in the post, hitting a mid-range jumper, or timing a teammates’ missed shot for an easy put back dunk. The next step in his game is his comfortability handling the ball. My closing thoughts: the level of effort Stewart plays with is unmatched.
The 6-foot-8 power forward is currently averaging 15.7 points and 11.2 rebounds per game during this EYBL season and would not be surprised to see him jump in the next updated rankings.
2023 PF Milan Momcilovic
On3 Consensus: Unranked
Team Herro (WI)
A fresh new face that’s burst onto the scene is Milan Momcilovic of Pewaukee, Wisconsin. The 6-foot-8 prospect has an impressive feel for the game and is one of the more polished and skilled forwards in the class. He can score the ball in a variety of ways; most impressively his three-point shot off the catch, to pair with his post-up fadeaways. The next steps in his game is to improve his ball handling and strength.
While Momcilovic isn’t currently ranked by On3, expect to see his name within the top-50 (or higher) during the next update.
Virginia Tech, Creighton, Xavier are his newest offers, to go along with Iowa State, Marquette, Minnesota, and others. Kentucky, Lousivlle, and UCLA are all starting to show interest.
Momcilovic is one the EYBL’s leading scorers, as he’s currently averaging 20 points per game — 51 percent from the field and 46 percent from three.
2023 5-star SF Matas Buzelis
On3 Consensus: No. 11
Expressions Elite (MA)
Matas Buzelis is so skilled at 6-foot-10. Today, he knocked down pull-up jumpers, step-back three-pointers, slashed to the rim (including one poster), as well as got his teammates involved. In the game I watched today, the five-star point forward finished with 20 points (on 7-of-11 from the field), five rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.

Michigan flips No. 1 QB Bryce Underwood from LSU
Buzelis’ best basketball is way out in front of him, and he’s only just starting to scratch the surface.
Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina, Florida State, Wake Forest and others have watched him this weekend.
Buzelis currently doesn’t have an exact timetable but would like to make a decision around Peach Jam.
2023 4-star SF Taylor Bowen
On3 Consensus: No. 27
Expressions Elite (MA)
Next up is Taylor Bowen, fellow Expressions Elite teammate of Buzelis. The first thing you notice is Bowen’s length and versatility. At 6-foot-9, Bowen can score in a variety of ways, whether that’s from three-point land, drive and floater, or catching lobs. Bowen is also just scratching the surface and is also an extremely interesting prospect. In the game I watched of his today, he finished with 15 points (on 6-of-10 from the field) four rebounds, two assists, and a block and a steal.
Bowen says he’s recruitment is wide open. Kentucky, Iowa, Michigan, and others were courtside for him today.
A full update on Bowen’s recruitment is coming soon.
2023 5-star Mackenzie Mgbako
On3 Consensus: No. 5
NJ Scholars
Mackenzie Mgbako missed the first EYBL session in Orlando because he was participating in the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland. However the 6-foot-8 skilled wing did not skip a beat. He came into Indy and absolutely dominated. The Duke commit now leads the EYBL in scoring with 24 points a game. The EYBL’s second leading scorer? DJ Wagner at 21 ppg.
Mgbako also had a 32 point performance on Saturday.
