Roswell (Ga.) senior quarterback Robbie Roper hopes to follow in a path blazed by former Florida quarterback Kyle Trask.

“Hopefully one day in the future kids in my spot will be saying the same thing about me that we’re saying about Kyle Trask right now,” Roper said.

Trask didn’t start on his high school team but earned an opportunity with the Gators late in his senior season.

Roper is one of the hottest passers in the state of Georgia in 2021. He’s thrown for 2,054 yards and 24 touchdowns with only six interceptions in eight games (he missed one with an injury). Roper has offers from Morgan State, Morehead State and Western Carolina.

That could change soon. Roper’s recruitment has begun taking shape. There are major programs beginning to check in on the 6-foot-2, 185-pound signal-caller. He’s heard from Auburn, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, Florida State, TCU and California.

“Some colleges have taken notice, it’s a little late in the process but some schools have taken notice and my recruitment has picked up,” Roper said. “Right now, I feel like whichever school takes a shot at me this late in the process will be getting a competitor and someone who will go in day one and compete for the job hopefully.”

Roper experiences his share of frustration in the recruiting process. He has focused on controlling what he can control: his play on the field.

“It’s tough at times seeing guys we’re playing against and beating up on and they have Power Five offers and stuff like that,” Roper said. “We go out and prove it on Friday nights. I feel like I keep doing that week in and week out. Hopefully, a school will take a shot pretty soon here.”

Robbie Roper enjoys Auburn visit

Roper was at Auburn on Saturday to watch the Tigers beat Ole Miss. Auburn hasn’t offered Roper as of now, but there was a positive conversation with Tigers’ offensive coordinator Mike Bobo on Saturday.

“I love Auburn, it’s one of the nicest places that I’ve visited,” Roper said. “Me and coach Bobo had a good conversation. He noticed the good year that I’ve had. He said he’d definitely keep an eye on me the rest of the season.”

Roper will be in College Station next week to watch Texas A&M. The Aggies have the 29th overall player in On3’s top 300, Connor Weigman, committed in the class of 2022.

If the Aggies offer, competing with one of the top quarterbacks in the class of 2022 is something that intrigues Roper.

“I’m looking forward to the atmosphere,” Roper said. “I know they have one quarterback commit already but I’d love to go in there and compete with him… Competition makes everyone better and I’ll look forward to it.”
