Fight breaks out between Michigan and Michigan State during kneel down
Michigan–Michigan State is a rivalry quite familiar with some chippiness, especially in recent history. And now, you can add another chapter from Saturday’s game in Ann Arbor. Right as the clock hit zero at the Big House, there was a fight between the two in-state rivals.
One more kneel down was required for Michigan to officially win the game, with Davis Warren taking the snap. His knee touched the ground but then a Michigan State defender instantly began to jaw with opposing Wolverines. Before you knew it, a fight was breaking out.
The incident occurred near the Michigan sideline, seeing a swarm of maize jerseys arriving. The Michigan State team eventually met them at midfield where the two sides had to be separated from one another.
You can check out the full sequence for yourself down below.
Shortly after the incident occurred, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was about about it. He was clearly not happy with the moment, saying it’s not representative of how he wants to run the program.

“That’s not what Michigan football is all about,” Moore said. “That’s not how we represent our program and this university. That’s uncalled for. That will be dealt with and handled. But that’s very disappointing that our football team was a part of that.”
Either way, Michigan walks out of the stadium as a winner. It’s the third straight win over Michigan State and the first with Moore as the head coach. Jonathan Smith, on the other side, was experiencing the rivalry for the first time as the Spartans’ first-year headman. Certainly not the result he wanted as they have now lost four out of five games overall.
Unfortunately, there is now an extra talking point that has nothing to do with football for both coaches moving forward.
