Fight breaks out on sidelines during Iron Bowl between Alabama, Auburn

Tensions spilled over in the Iron Bowl, with a fight breaking out following a play that ran out of bounds and saw multiple players locked up physically.
Things started after Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne fired an incomplete pass to the left flats and Auburn receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith blocked Alabama defensive back DeVonta Smith well into the sidelines.
Players from both teams ran to the area and began jawing and scrapping, as officials and team staffers attempted to calm things.
Officials penalized Alabama’s Smith and fellow defensive back Malachi Moore with personal conduct calls, resulting in 15 yards worth of penalties for the Crimson Tide. A costly penalty in a hotly contested Iron Bowl.
Auburn had its chances to make the Iron Bowl a little more competitive in the early going but instead opted to take a less risky approach to the end of the first half.

Staring at a fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line with less than 30 seconds to play in the first half, coach Hugh Freeze opted to take a delay of game penalty and kick a field goal instead of going for it.
That cut the Alabama lead in the Iron Bowl to 14-6 at the break.
But the Crimson Tide would answer early in the second half. The first two possessions in the third quarter would result in long touchdown drives.
The first one was a nine-play, 75-yard drive that was capped by a 2-yard Justice Haynes touchdown run. The second was a six-play, 60-yard drive that quarterback Jalen Milroe finished off himself with a 17-yard touchdown run.
That made the score 28-6 Alabama.
Auburn answered with a 10-play, 87-yard drive in the third quarter, capped by a 29-yard touchdown reception by freshman sensation Cam Coleman. That cut the Alabama lead in the Iron Bowl to 28-14, where things stood as time ticked own on the end of the third quarter at the time of this writing.
