FIU WR transfer Eric Rivers commits to Georgia Tech
Former FIU wide receiver Eric Rivers has committed to Georgia Tech out of the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Rivers has one year of eligibility remaining and began his career at Memphis before transferring to FIU in 2023 and finishing with 32 catches for 370 yards that season. Then he broke out this past year, finishing with 62 catches for 1,172 yards and 12 touchdowns.
He showed up in a major way against New Mexico State this season, going for 295 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the contest. He also had 100-yard games against Florida Atlantic, Monmouth, Kennesaw State and Middle Tennessee.
His efforts kept him busy once he hit the transfer portal. His suitors included Miami, Virginia, Penn State and more.
Before college, Rivers was a three-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

Now, Rivers is on to his third collegiate stop and will look to make the most of it in the ACC. Georgia Tech finished the regular season 7-5 overall including an eight-overtime thriller against in-state rival Georgia during Week 14 and a win over a top-five Miami team in November.
The Yellow Jackets are set to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores in the Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 27.
The portal officially opens on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers.
That means roughly 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year, per On3’s Pete Nakos.
