Five Players to Watch when Texas A&M takes on LSU

Texas A&M is set to close out the 2022 football season on Saturday night against LSU in a game that has implications for both sides. A win by the Aggies would give them a slim chance at potentially making a bowl game, while a loss by LSU would eliminate the Tigers’ chances at making the College Football Playoff. Before the game, here are five LSU standouts to know.

Jayden Daniels

Daniels has had his best season of his career since transferring in from LSU. He’s thrown for 2,377 yards and 15 touchdowns, to just two interceptions, completing over 69% of his passes. He leads the Tigers in rushing as well, with 740 yards and eleven touchdowns on the ground this season. Keeping him in check will be the Aggies’ biggest priority on Saturday if they want to win.

Josh Williams

Williams has come on strong in recent weeks as the Tigers’ lead back. He’s rushed for over 50 yards in five of the last six games, including his season-best performance of 122 yards and one touchdown against Arkansas earlier this month. Given the Aggies’ struggles against the run, look for LSU to put the ball in Williams’ hands early and often. Forcing Daniels to throw is the Aggies’ best shot at stopping the Tigers defensively.

Harold Perkins

A familiar name for Texas A&M fans because of his recruitment, the former five-star has been the Tigers’ best player as a true freshman. He’s recorded 57 tackles, 7.5 sacks, four passes deflected, two forced fumbles and one interception. His speed and athleticism has caused headaches for every team LSU has played and he’ll be tasked with spying Conner Weigman and keeping Devon Achane in check. The Aggies will have to account for him every single play.

Greg Brooks Jr.

The senior safety has been something of the glue guy for the Tigers’ defense this season. He’s recorded 43 tackles, one sack, one interception and one forced fumble on the season playing all over the defensive backfield. Between Brooks and fellow safeties Jay Ward and Joe Foucha, it’s been hard for teams to throw on the Tigers’ defense and the Aggies will have to get back to the offense they displayed against Ole Miss to have a chance.

BJ Ojulari

Up front, outside of the aforementioned Perkins, BJ Ojulari has been the Tigers’ most disruptive player rushing the passer with six sacks on the season. Texas A&M’s offensive line will have their work cut out for him between Ojulari and Perkins and if the staff doesn’t have a plan for keeping Conner Weigman clean against two of the best pass rushers not just in the SEC, but in the country, it could be a rough day at the office for the Aggies’ offense.
