Ricks sent a statement to On3 regarding his reclassification:
I would like to thank IMG Academy and the National Football staff for the opportunity to play football at an elite level during my high school years.
After deep thought and consideration I will be reclassifying to the class of 2023.
Over the next few months I will be considering all of my opportunities to play at the next level and announcing my commitment when I choose where home will be for the next three to four years.
With God, family and my amazing support system it’s only up from here!

Desmond Ricks Scouting Summary
“Big, athletic corner who stars on one of the most talented defenses in high school football,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Has good stature for the position at over 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds heading into his junior season. Registers as a strong athlete in the combine setting. Was a key player on IMG Academy’s talented defense as a sophomore in addition to seeing significant time as a freshman. A smooth mover with advanced technical ability. Battle-tested against top wide receivers both in practice at IMG and in playing a national schedule throughout the fall. Older for the class, turning 18 years old in the middle of his junior season.”
Ricks currently ranks as the No. 2 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting services. He also tabs in as the No. 1 cornerback and the No. 1 player in the state of Florida.
