5-star 2023 forward G.G. Jackson plans to make college decision soon
The nation’s No. 2 power forward in the 2023 class, Columbia (S.C.) Ridge Point’s G.G. Jackson, is heading toward a decision in his recruitment.
Jackson told GamecockCentral’s Kendall Smith that he plans to make his decision in the “next two to three weeks.” Whether he will commit then or wait for a later date remains to be seen.
The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Jackson is the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the No. 1 prospect in South Carolina.
Hometown South Carolina pushing to land G.G. Jackson
Jackson recently took an official visit to see the hometown Gamecocks, and he previously took officials to Duke in January and North Carolina in October.
He spoke with South Carolina transfer quarterback Spencer Rattler on his visit, which Gamecock Central detailed here.

“It stuck out to me. They told me how Spencer is doing great in the NIL,” Jackson said. “He told me himself that I’m from here and I’m number one here and it would be perfect for NIL.”
Jackson father came away impressed with the Gamecocks and the visit as a whole, as did his father.
“Their whole message is to stay home and celebrate at home,” the elder Jackson said. “It’s all right to make everyone else look good, but what about home? He can really turn the corner on men’s basketball just like A’ja Wilson did. She got a chance to speak to him and it could really make a big difference on the boy’s side.”
Jackson said one of the things he really took away from the weekend was the “love from home” and “how loyal the fans are,” saying the devotion they’ve shown the program “says a lot” about the fan base.
G.G. Jackson has been rumored as a possible reclassification prospect, but that decision likely won’t come until after he announces his commitment. As it stands currently, North Carolina is the overwhelming favorite to land him, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). It gives the Tar Heels an 86.9 percent chance to secure his commitment, with South Carolina trailing behind at 10.4 percent.
