Five-Star Plus+ WR Evan Stewart reflects on recruitment
There were times when Five-Star Plus+ Frisco (Texas) Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart felt he’d never find somewhere that was the ‘perfect fit’.
Texas A&M was that fit for Stewart. He is the No. 4 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings for the class of 2022.
“I was almost to the point where I didn’t think I was going to find the perfect fit and I was just going to be somewhere to be somewhere,” Stewart said.
The other members of the No. 1 ranked class in the 2022 Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings helped lure Stewart to Texas A&M.
“It was the fact that we were all getting along so well,” Stewart said. “Me and Walt (Walter Nolen) always had that thing that we were going to go to the same place. We just didn’t know where that place was going to be. It was like a perfect fit.”
Texas A&M’s class is full of personality. Stewart staked a claim as the biggest of the bunch. However, every one of the Aggies’ 27 commits has a role in the puzzle.
Stewart believes that’s the special ingredient to the class of 2022. They all love having a good time. Stewart has been seen dancing throughout multiple practices in Orlando this week.
“Every single one of us has personalities,” Stewart said. “I’m going to say I’m the biggest. When we’re all in one place, it just fits. We all know it’s all jokes. We’re relaxing and we have each others’ backs. It’s crazy to feel that comfortable with guys that you haven’t known your whole life.”
Texas A&M class more than personality and flash
Stewart hopes the chemistry propels him and his classmates. There’s a lot of love already between Stewart and the rest of the group.
Though there’s a lot of fun and games involved in their daily life, Stewart feels there is a hard-nosed element to many of the guys heading to College Station.

Stewart has always been that way himself. He feels that’s been one of the attracting factors to Texas A&M.
“It feels good to be around people that I know are going to work,” Stewart said. “You see at A&M that players work. They’re all working for a championship. I’m glad that the class I’m coming in with is coming in with that same mindset.”
Evan Stewart addresses his opt out of high school football
Stewart opted out of the final half of his senior season at Liberty High School.
This week at the Under Armour All-American Game is the first action Stewart has seen in pads since late September.
“It wasn’t a really hard decision because of the circumstances, but it was also really hard because I didn’t want to leave my teammates,” Stewart said. “Most of the teammates on my team were my family members. That’s why when everyone was bashing me, I didn’t object to it. I understand their perspective.”
Stewart attended every game after he opted out. He wanted to make sure his presence was felt even though he wasn’t physically on the field.
“I don’t really like the phrase that coaches use when they’re like players look up to you because you’re a captain,” Stewart said. “No, they like that I lead by example. They need to know what to do. Being with them, they were able to feed off me and see me working. They played to higher energy knowing that there was a person that was going to be there if something was to go wrong. I’m really close with that team. I was with the whole way.”
Great expectations
Stewart has high hopes for his college career.
“I’m trying to win championships,” Stewart said. “I want to win them all three years. The thing is, we all have to come in and take care of business. That is the main thing, getting every person to come in and take care of business.”
