What Dusty May has done with the FAU program is incredible, taking them to the Final Four. A dream run for anybody, let alone the young head coach May is. If he were to put his name on the open market and go for a big-time job, May would likely have multiple suitors. However, per a report, he is not going to be available in the near future.

According to CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander, May will sign a “lucrative long-term” contract to remain with Florida Atlantic following the Final Four. No terms have been revealed quite yet but one thing is for sure — no matter how the Final Four turns out, May will not be leaving the program.

“Exclusive: Dusty May and FAU AD Brian White tell @CBSSports May is staying at FAU and will sign a lucrative long-term contract after the F4,” Norlander said via Twitter. “FAU also has more than $10 million to invest in facilities+arena this offseason and in the years to come.”

While being a nine-seed might say FAU’s run to Houston is Cinderella-esque, May led them to one of the best records in college basketball. To some extent, the Owls expected to make a deep NCAA Tournament run but even so, making the Final Four has to be a surreal feeling.

May is looking to continue on, no matter what happens this upcoming weekend. In a statement, the head coach said he “never had any intent” of leaving the program. While he might be one of the hottest names in coaching, May will not be moving out of Boca Raton.

“I love it here. I love our players, I love our staff and the only thing I’ve been focused on since the beginning was doing the best job for our team,” May said via CBS Sports. “I was doing my job and I never had any intent of leaving.”

Nobody is happier about May’s decision than athletic director Brian White. Being able to lock down May is a huge win for him as there is a real opportunity for men’s basketball to explode. He believes there would be nobody better to be at the front of the charge.

“We could not be more grateful and excited to have coach May lead this program into the future,” White said via CBS Sports. “The way he leads this program is incredible from a wins and losses perspective, but just as important is the culture he builds, the student-athlete experience he contributes to, the people he brings to FAU.

“We’re so proud of our men’s basketball program and are extremely excited about the opportunity to have Dusty leading it into the future.”
