The 2022 NCAA Tournament is underway for women’s softball across the country and today, Georgia Tech freshman Emma Minghini caught an unexpected throw from Florida catcher Sam Roe right in her ear. Luckily for Minghini — she had her helmet on. Check out the throw below as Roe attempts to throw out a runner at second base but ends up misfiring and drilling Minghini instead.

Thankfully, as the replay above shows, Minghini was okay and not injured after getting drilled pretty hard.

The second replay above shows the footage a bit better, but the video helps to explain the full action of the play a little bit better.

The Florida Gators currently lead the game 2-0 in the third inning, but it’s delayed due to weather. Reagan Walsh drilled in the two runs for Florida in the bottom of the first inning. She swatted a double to left center field, bringing in Hannah Adams and Skylar Wallace. Florida currently sits at 44-16 overall on the season and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets sit at 38-16 overall.

Wash has been one of Florida’s strongest power hitters all season, drilling six home runs with 44 RBIs. Skylar Wallace has led the team in home runs this year with seven. She’s also tied with Walsh for the team lead in RBIs–44. Wallace also leads Florida in batting average–with .390.
