Florida defensive line coach Sean Spencer is On3 national recruiter of month for August
Each month, On3 will spotlight a college football assistant producing standout work on the recruiting trail. Our national recruiter of the month for August is Florida co-defensive coordinator/line coach Sean Spencer.
Spencer led the way for a big month for the Gators. Of the four highly ranked players who committed to Florida in August, Spencer was the lead recruiter on three — defensive linemen Kelby Collins, Will Norman and Kamran James. All three are ranked among the top 20 defensive linemen and in the national top 165 overall in the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2023 recruiting class.
Collins, from Gardendale (Ala.) High, in the Birmingham suburbs, is the seventh-best defensive lineman and 62nd-best overall prospect in the On3 Consensus Rankings.
Norman, a Camden, N.J., native who plays for Baltimore St. Frances Academy, is the No. 18 defensive lineman and No. 149 overall prospect in the 2023 class.

James, from Orlando Olympia, is the No. 19 defensive lineman and No. 163 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus. He is much higher in On3’s rankings – the No. 3 defensive lineman and No. 23 overall prospect.
Aided by those three additions, Florida begins September ranked ninth nationally in the 2023 On3 Consensus rankings.
Spencer was hired by new Florida coach Billy Napier after spending the past two seasons as the New York Giants’ defensive line coach. Before the stint with the Giants, Spencer was the defensive line coach for six seasons at Penn State.
In addition to the three defensive linemen in August, Spencer has been the lead recruiter on two other four-star commitments for the Gators – EDGE rusher Isaiah Nixon of St. Petersburg (Fla.) Lakewood and defensive lineman Gavin Hill of Gainesville (Fla.) Buchholz. He was a secondary recruiter on two other four-star commitments – wide receiver Eugene Wilson III of Tampa Gaither and defensive lineman T.J. Searcy of Thomaston (Ga.) Upson-Lee. Lee and Searcy are national top-150 prospects in the On3 Consensus.
