Florida fraternities hang signs calling for Billy Napier firing
Florida coach Billy Napier is feeling the heat after losing the season opener to Miami last week to fall to just 11-15 overall during his tenure with the Gators.
And he’s experiencing that heat all around him, including on campus.
On Saturday as Florida prepared to take on Samford in what should be a gimme game, fans walking around the west side of campus were greeted with a half dozen or so signs outside of fraternity houses. Many of them had Napier-related themes.
The most blunt? “Scared Money Don’t Make Money #PayTheBuyout”

The reference is obvious; Napier became famous as a Group of Five coach for unleashing the saying during a game in which he made some aggressive calls that paid off. The phrase stuck and was one many hoped would help turn Florida back into a powerhouse.
It hasn’t panned out that way so far.
Napier has found it tough to generate consistent or sustained success, to the point that many are now calling for his job in his third year in charge of the program.

Even analysts like Nick Saban, a former boss of Napier’s, have pointed to the failure to create a consistent culture.
“Well, I think he’s gotta change the culture,” Saban said. “I mean the culture there is not what it needs to be in terms of the intangible things that you play with. You know, the toughness, the discipline to control the line of scrimmage. They’re just not doing those types of things.
“I know he took over a tough situation, but hopefully you could establish that culture in Year 3.”
If you don’t, you get calls for your job. And Napier isn’t likely to stop hearing those anytime soon.
The only way out at Florida is winning and winning a lot.
