Florida releases Week 2 depth chart, reveals two players expected to miss Samford game
Defensive backs Asa Turner and Devin Moore will miss the game this Saturday against Samford, Gators Online’s Nick de la Torre revealed. The news comes as Florida released its Week 2 depth chart.
The chart lists Tulane transfer DJ Douglas as the starter in place of Turner at the safety position.
Moore strung together two tackles during the season opener against Miami during Week 1, while Turner logged one.
However, the obvious thing that stands out about Florida’s Week 2 depth chart lies at the quarterback position. Starting quarterback Graham Mertz left the season opener early after being put into concussion protocol, leading the way for blue-chip true freshman quarterback DJ Lagway to enter the game in his place.

Lagway completed 3 of 6 passes for 31 yards and an interception during his collegeiate debut, but a greater sample size on the field — and adequate preparation — will improve his numbers vastly heading into Week 2.
Montrell Johnson broke free on a 71-yard run and finished with over 100 yards rushing on the day, but that was one of the few bright spots during a tough afternoon in The Swamp.

“We couldn’t sustain drives. We lacked consistency,” Napier said on Wednesday. “We need more plays where we’ve got 11 players doing exactly what they should do.
Defensively two critical penalties that led to touchdowns on those possessions. They played ahead of the sticks. I thought they did a good job. They had balance. We struggled to affect the quarterback. The pass rush was not much of a factor. I do think he made some plays, the quarterback played a heck of a game, played some plays on some extended plays. We had a few missed communications in the back end in man coverage. Two led to touchdowns.”
The Florida defense ultimately gave up 529 yards to Cam Ward and the Miami offense. They gave up scores on seven of their 12 defensive possessions while forcing a single turnover in the first quarter, which resulted in a Gators field goal.
As the Gators look to move on from their season opener, kickoff between Florida and Samford is set for Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
