Despite a lackluster season on the football field, Florida State‘s recruiting momentum has remained intact. The Seminoles signed a top-20 class in 2025 — even with a number of high-profile decommitments. And in 2026, they’re off to a fast start — even after four-star quarterback commit Brady Smigiel backed off his pledge on Sunday.

Mike Norvell and Co. still have six early commits in the class, including the latest from four-star Marianna (Fla.) running back Amari Clemons, who announced his decision on Monday.

The 5-foot-10, 178-pounder visited Tallahassee over the weekend, his second visit in just over a month. And that was enough for him to pull the trigger and join FSU’s class.

“I feel like it’s right for me,” Clemons told On3’s Steve Wiltfong. “It’s close to home. I have support from my hometown, support from my family. I feel like it’s right, not just the football part but the academic part. I think it will be great for me. I want to succeed in helping turn the program around.”

His decision also moves the Seminoles up one spot from No. 10 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, leapfrogging Notre Dame in the process.

Seminoles nab an uber-productive back for the future

Clemons is coming off a junior season where he rushed for 1,880 yards and 34 touchdowns on just 153 carries, averaging 12.3 yards per attempt. He also added 14 receptions, 247 yards and three more scores in the passing game.

He checks in as the No. 291 overall prospect and No. 24 RB in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3, however, is higher on him than other services. In the most recent On300 rankings, he was tabbed as the nation’s No. 174 recruit and No. 20 running back.

Clemons joins a class that already includes top-100 athletes Darryon Williams and Efrem White, On300 safeties Darryl Bell and Tedarius Hughes, as well as massive offensive tackle Xavier Payne. Each of FSU’s six current commits hails from the Sunshine State, too.
