Florida State is once again looking for a quarterback to add to its 2026 recruiting class after losing a commitment from Newbury Park (Calif.) four-star Brady Smigiel on Sunday afternoon.

Head coach Mike Norvell and new offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn are moving quick. Just minutes after Smigiel announced his decommitment, Celina (Texas) four-star QB Bowe Bentley announced an offer from the Seminoles.

Bentley’s recruitment has taken off following a big junior season and an impressive showing at the Navy All-American Bowl earlier this month. Since then, he’s picked up offers from the likes of Wisconsin, Kansas State, UCF, Oklahoma, Missouri and now FSU.

“Bowe Bentley had another good day at the Navy All-American Bowl,” On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote of Bentley after the second practice in San Antonio. “He continued to look like the top quarterback on the East team in the morning practice, making quick decisions and throwing with velocity. Bentley was a little more up and down during the joint practice, but still made some nice plays.”

Captaining the Texas 4A-Division I state champion Celina Bobcats to a 17-0 season in 2024, Bentley threw for 3,330 yards and 47 touchdowns and also rushed for 933 yards and 16 more scores.

He is the No. 403 overall prospect and No. 26 QB in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 51 player in Texas.

Florida State’s 2026 class still has strong base

Despite losing Smigiel’s pledge on Sunday, the Seminoles still have five commits in their 2026 class, four of whom are blue-chippers in the On300.

It’s a secondary-heavy class to this point. Tampa Plant four-star athlete Darryon Williams and Vero Beach (Fla.) four-star ATH Efrem White are both top-75 prospects. White has been in the class since Dec. 12, 2023, while Williams committed back in April of 2024.

Miami Barbara Goleman four-star safety Darryl Bell and Homestead (Fla.) South Dade four-star safety Tedarius Hughes are the No. 18 and No. 20 players at their position, respectively. Bell has also been in the class since 2023, while Hughes has been committed since last July.

Orlando Jones offensive tackle Xavier Payne currently rounds out the pledge list. The 6-foot-7, 275-pounder committed last month on Dec. 21. Though its early, the class still ranks No. 10 in the nation and No. 1 in the ACC, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
