Florida trolls Brian Kelly over pounding table after upset win over LSU
Saturday night, Billy Napier got a signature win as Florida defeated LSU at The Swamp. Afterward, the Gators’ social media team trolled Brian Kelly, using his Week 1 press conference after the loss to USC, when he pounded a table.
Kelly lamented that season-opening loss and slammed the table while expressing his frustration with the same issues he saw coming up. Florida used a GIF of the viral clip and encouraged the LSU coach to avoid breaking the tables in his postgame press conference after Saturday’s game.
It marks the second straight loss for LSU, which fell to Alabama at home last week. But for Napier and Florida, it’s one win closer to bowl eligibility against the toughest schedule in the nation. Most importantly, according to On3’s Andy Staples, no podiums were harmed in the making of Saturday’s press conference.
LSU took a 13-10 lead into the halftime locker room, but Trey Smack tied things up with a long field goal. Florida then took a 20-13 lead on a Ja’Kobi Jackson touchdown run and, after an LSU field goal, sealed the game when Jadan Baugh rattled off a 55-yard score to make it a 27-16 lead – which held as the final.

It was quite the response for Florida, which got blown out by Texas while dealing with key injuries. But with DJ Lagway back, the Gators got a huge victory – and Napier pointed out what it means for the program as a whole.
“Let me tell you something,” Napier told ABC’s Taylor McGregor. “As a coach, it’s always been about purpose. The players are the purpose, right? For them to experience the gratification. Now, these guys have been an incredible example of the intangibles that we want our team to be about. The way they’ve stuck together. Obviously, a ton of adversity.
“But it’s a resilient group. And they care about each other. That was a team win. That was a complementary, all phases. It’s awesome to see those guys experience the success. It’s all the hard work that they put in.”
