The game between Florida and Texas A&M has been delayed by lightning in the area, according to multiple reports from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Texas A&M led 10-0 at the time of the weather delay, with the game in between the first and second quarters at the time of the stoppage.

A restart time has not yet been announced, but typically teams must wait at least 30 minutes from the last lightning strike before returning to the field.

For the Aggies, the start couldn’t have been much better in the Swamp. The team came right out and marched down the field, despite sporting a backup quarterback today.

Starting quarterback Conner Weigman was a gameday scratch due to a sprained AC joint, and Texas A&M turned to redshirt freshman Marcel Reed as a result. Reed wasted little time making himself comfortable.

In the first quarter, Reed went 8-of-10 passing for 94 yards and a touchdown. He also ran twice for 30 yards, exploiting a Florida defense that has been susceptible to mobile quarterbacks early on this season.

Reed put together multiple scoring drives to give his team a 10-0 lead.

Florida, on the other hand, had its starting quarterback available again following an injury. Senior Graham Mertz, who missed last week’s game due to a concussion, was back and started the game over talented true freshman DJ Lagway.

His start, though, didn’t go well. On his opening drive, Mertz fired high for a receiver on third down, stalling out the drive.

Lagway came in for the second series, which was in progress when the game went to the second quarter and then entered the weather delay. Lagway did not throw a pass, simply handing off for a loss on his first snap.

Texas A&M outgained Florida 174 yards to just eight in the opening frame.

Now the two teams will wait out the delay, going to the locker room to see if they can identify any weaknesses on the early tape that can be exploited.
