Former Alabama, Georgia DB Jake Pope commits to UNLV out of transfer portal
Former Alabama and Georgia defensive back Jake Pope will be linking up with a long-time former SEC coach at his new school, committing to UNLV and Dan Mullen.
Pope informed On3’s Hayes Fawcett of his plan to join the Rebels. He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound defensive back appeared in just four games as a reserve defensive back for Georgia during the 2024 season. Now he’ll look for an opportunity elsewhere.
Before he had enrolled at Georgia, Jake Pope spent two years at Alabama. He played a little bit more with the Crimson Tide, but he still didn’t have a significant impact.
In 2023, he played in 12 games, working primarily on special teams with the Tide. Jake Pope redshirted during his first season at Alabama in 2022.
Georgia loses a quality EDGE to the portal
Jake Pope isn’t the only person headed out of the Georgia program this offseason. On Monday, a big name along the defensive line was reportedly planning to enter the transfer portal.

Georgia freshman edge rusher Damon Wilson plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported the news.
Wilson contributed to the Georgia defense that was still among some of the best in the country in 2024. Wilson had 22 total tackles, 13 of which were solo, and three sacks in 2024. Wilson also had two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Wilson played in seven games during the 2023 season, accounting for three total tackles and half a sack.
As a recruit, Wilson was a five-star prospect ranked No. 20 in the 2023 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 3 EDGE and No. 5 recruit from Florida in the 2023 cycle.
On3’s Collin Ginnan also contributed to this report.
