After spending time at Auburn and Colorado, wide receiver Tar’Varish Dawson has decided on his next destination. Headed to Jacksonville State after entering the NCAA transfer portal this offseason according to Matt Zenitz.

Dawson started off his college career at Auburn, spending two seasons with the Tigers where he appeared in just five games. Catching two passes for 30 yards along with 2 rushes for 10 yards before entering the transfer portal. Initially committing to Cincinnati before flipping his commitment to Colorado.

“I mean my city back home is a reason,” Dawson said in 2023. “Everybody loves Deion and wants to play for him, and we are from the same city. So why not? I got my old high school coach there. Deion coached me once on his 7v7 team. My family loves Deion and they know he will take good care of me.”

Last season for the Buffaloes, Dawson played in seven games and made four starts. Ending his lone Boulder with 14 receptions, 142 yards, and a touchdown along with an eight yard touchdown rush against Nebraska. Adding to his breakout performance against the Cornhuskers.

Dawson played high school football at Lehigh Senior High School in Lehigh Acres (FL) where he was a four-star prospect. Ranked the No. 259 overall recruit and the No. 22 wide receiver in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Latest on Colorado and the transfer portal

To this point in the 2024 cycle, Colorado has the No. 1 ranked transfer class, according to the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. There has been a ton of transfer movement in Boulder with 44 players who have transferred out and now 41 who have transferred into the Colorado program since the end of last season.

One thing that head coach Deion Sanders will need to navigate is getting the Colorado roster to 85 scholarship players. Between incoming transfers and freshmen, teams often need to see players transfer to not end up above that number. Colorado will certainly have no issue having too many players at this rate with nearly half their roster having departed after last season.
