Matt Nagy releases statement after parting ways with Bears
The Chicago Bears fired head coach Matt Nagy on Monday following Sunday’s 31-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in their regular season finale. Nagy compiled a 34-31 overall record in four total seasons with the Bears, but his team went just 6-11 this season.
After being let go by the Chicago Bears organization, Nagy released a lengthy statement to express his thanks for his time as the team’s head man.
“To the Chicago Bears organization – It was an honor to serve as your Head Coach over the past four seasons,” Nagy said in his statement. “I want to thank Ted Phillips, George H. McCaskey and Mrs. Virginia McCaskey for the opportunity to lead one of the game’s most storied franchises. It’s four years I’ll always remember.
“To Ryan Pace – Your passion and commitment towards this franchise was contagious. You gave it everything you had, every single day. It was always teamwork and togetherness with us. No regrets. Thank you.
“To the Players, Coaches and Support Staff – Thank you for your hard work and daily dedication. I will forever be grateful for the fight and determination you showed each week. Every day I tried my very best to honor the commitment you showed to the game and the organization. We’ve all built great relationships that will last a lifetime. I was proud to be your coach and wish you nothing but success in the future.”

Chicago Bears fire head coach Matt Nagy after four seasons
Under Matt Nagy’s watch this season, the Bears went 6-11, officially being eliminated from the playoffs after the loss to the Vikings. Chicago’s defense kept them in games, but its offense is nearly last in every statistic.
Known for his offensive expertise and culture building, Nagy was brought to Chicago from Kansas City, where he was the offensive coordinator. The Bears hoped he could help spark an organization looking for its first Super Bowl since 1985.
Although the 43-year-old won the NFC North in his debut season in 2018, Chicago never truly took off. The 2018 season marked a change, however, as Nagy’s defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio, was named the Broncos head coach. With a new defensive coordinator, Chicago struggled on the offensive side of the ball, too. The Bears finished the season 8-8 and their offense ranked 29th in the league, leading to the firing of offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich.
Chicago started the 2020 season 5-1, it followed with a six-game losing streak.
