Outsider.com announced Jay Cutler, who played 12 years in the NFL, is transitioning into a new role with the company.

Cutler, a founding partner at Outsider, will be Outsider’s Chief Design Officer and lead the company’s lifestyle division. He played in the NFL for the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins before retiring in 2017.

“Obviously, Jay has many talents, but those that know him will tell you that he is a creative savant,” Outsider co-founder Shannon B. Terry said in a statement. “He led the efforts to develop the Outsider mark and brand mission and is now creating a portfolio of products that are built from the ground up, with the highest quality of materials and craftsmanship.”

During his career, Cutler made a Pro Bowl after Denver drafted him No. 11 overall in the 2006 NFL Draft. After three years with the Broncos, the Chicago Bears traded for him as their potential franchise quarterback. He played in Chicago for eight years, amassing a 51-51 record on Chicago’s Lakefront.

Cutler briefly returned to the NFL in 2017 after leaving the Bears when the Dolphins signed him to a one-year contract. He went 6-8 that year while filling in for the injured Ryan Tannehill.

“Football was always a place of community for me,” Cutler said in a statement. “Ignoring the noise. Putting your head down and getting to work. Leading a team.

“Outsider is a representation of all the things that drew me to my past career in the NFL. It embodies teamwork and dedication; celebrating team victories and strategizing new game plans after setbacks.”

After retirement, Cutler launched a podcast called “Uncut with Jay Cutler” and still makes regular radio appearances on ESPN 1000 in Chicago.

“I believe in the Outsider mission and see this as a great opportunity to build a brand that can impact so many people in a positive way,” Cutler said in a statement. “Outsider is a natural extension of my everyday lifestyle. It is the things I do and what I love. I look forward to sharing this experience as I enter the next journey of my life.”

Outsider recently launched a lifestyle store featuring custom-built hats, some of which Cutler created. The company plans to launch a full line of lifestyle products in the near future.
