Detroit Mercy transfer guard Jayden Stone signs to West Virginia
Former Grand Canyon and Detroit Mercy guard Jayden Stone has officially signed to West Virginia for the final season of his college career, On3 has learned.
Stone jones the Mountaineers coming off of the strongest season of his four-year college career. Scoring a career-high 20.8 points per game which ranked second in the Horizon League and 22nd in the nation last basketball season.
“Jayden brings us great versatility and can play a variety of positions,” West Virginia head coach Darian DeVries said. “We love the way he can shoot the ball along with his ability to handle and facilitate.”
Along with his scoring output the 6-foot-4, 200-pound guard also averaged a career-high 5.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game last season for the Titans. Shooting 42.2% from the field and 31.2% from three-point range with 15 20+ point scoring outings on the year (three with 30+ points).
As a junior Stone appeared and started in just 13 games for Detroit, averaging 13.9 and 5.3 rebounds per game along with a highly-efficient shooting percentage from beyond the arc at 51.9% on 126 attempts.

Stone spent the first two seasons of his college career at Grand Canyon before transferring to Detroit Mercy, appearing in 30 games off the bench where he averaged 3.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. All in all joining West Virginia with 69 games of experience under his belt plus 825 points, 253 rebounds, 122 assists, and 59 steals in total for his college career.
Stone is a Perth, Australia native played high school basketball at Central Park Christian High School and Sacred Heart in Alabama before ending his prep career at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas. Where he was an unrated, unrankned recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
But after entering the transfer portal this offseason, Stone was a three-star college prospect ranked as the No. 508 overall player and the No. 52 combo guard available in the portal for 2024 according to On3’s College Basketball Transfer Portal Top Player Rankings.
