Duke transfer TJ Power will be staying in the ACC. Power has committed to Virginia.

Power was ranked as the No. 19 overall player in the country in the class of 2023, per the On3 Industry rankings.

The 6-foot-9 forward appeared in 29 games in 2023-24 for the Blue Devils. He averaged 2.1 points and 0.7 rebounds per game.

TJ Power attended Worcester Academy prior to coming to Duke. He led his team to back-to-back NEPSAC Class AA championships in his junior and senior seasons.

Power also considered Virginia out of high school. Now he will be joining the Cavaliers.

As for UVA, they are coming off of a 23-11 season. The Cavaliers snuck into the NCAA Tournament as one of the last teams in, before falling to Colorado State 67-42 in a play-in game.

Power will be playing for Tony Bennett at Virginia. The 54-year-old Bennett led the Cavaliers to the 2019 national championship.

Duke forward TJ Power releases statement after entering NCAA transfer portal

Prior to committing to Virginia, TJ Power released a statement breaking down his decision to leave the Duke program.

He said the following in a statement to On3’s Joe Tipton:

“This past year in Durham has been one of the best years of my life and I’m forever grateful for all the great relationships that I’ve built here in my short time. I want to thank Coach Scheyer, Coach Dildy and the whole staff, along with my teammates and performance staff for believing in me and pushing me every day. I truly have nothing but love for you all.

“To all of the crazies and supporters, your energy and love has made this experience one that I will never forget. Duke will always have a place in my heart but it’s time to do what is best for me and with that being said, I will be entering my name into the transfer portal.”

TJ Power and Duke finished the 2023-24 season with a 27-9 (15-6) record under Jon Scheyer. It was only the second season for Scheyer as the head coach of the Blue Devils.

Duke advanced all the way to the Elite Eight, before falling to rival NC State with a spot in the Final Four on the line.
