Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei is set to play his first game with the Seminoles on Saturday afternoon against Georgia Tech after previously playing at both Clemson and Oregon State.

Ahead of his first start with the Seminoles, Uiagalelei heard from last year’s Florida State star quarterback in Jordan Travis.

The Bills rookie has spoken with Uiagalelei multiple times since joining the FSU program, including on Friday, less than 24 hours before kickoff of the season opener. He spoke with Pat McAfee on Friday about his conversations with DJ Uiagalelei.

“I actually just texted DJ probably about 20 minutes ago,” Jordan Travis said Friday on The Pat McAfee Show. “I’ve talked to him a little bit, man. I’m so excited to see him just go out there and ball, man.”

DJ Uiagalelei has been good but not great throughout his college career. He threw for 43 touchdowns the past two seasons but was also benched his last year at Clemson after struggling down the stretch.

Travis is confident that Uiagalelei will be able to do what he did during his time in Tallahassee and blossom into one of the best quarterbacks in the country this fall.

“He’s had a narrative that I’ve had before, and I can’t wait to watch him go out there and just do what he does, just be himself,” Travis said. “The guys on the team love him and talk about him all the time to me. So he’s a special person and I love supporting people that are just good people.”

Nick Saban raves about FSU’s personnel entering Week 0

While some have question marks about DJ Uiagalelei, overall the Florida State roster is loaded.

ESPN analyst Nick Saban spoke on The Pat McAfee Show about the Seminoles on Friday. Saban doesn’t just think the ‘Noles will be great in their conference but nationally, too. He sees them as one of the five or so best teams in the nation just based on what they have on their roster with returners and portal pieces.

Florida State, to me, has one of the best five, probably, personnel-wise, teams in the country,” Saban said. “The way they’ve been able to reload through the portal as well as having good recruiting and good young players coming up in the program that they’ve developed.

“I think they’re one of the best teams in the country. Looking at them on the field, they’re a very physical, good-looking team.”

Florida State and Georgia Tech will open the season on Saturday. This should be a quality conference matchup to kick off the start of the season in college football. Saban thinks so too with his expectations for both the Seminoles and Yellow Jackets in 2024.
