Former Georgetown signee Marvel Allen commits to Dayton
Marvel Allen, a three-star shooting guard in the senior class and former Georgetown signee, has committed to Dayton, he told On3.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound prospect of Montverde (Fla.) Academy committed to the Hoyas in July beating out the likes of Michigan, Arizona State, Texas A&M, and others. He signed with Georgetown in November.
Allen requested to be released from his National Letter of Intent to Georgetown last month, providing the following statement to On3:
“First, I would like to thank coach Ewing and Nickelberry for giving me an opportunity to join and be apart of the Hoya family. I want to thank the fans, and University for welcoming me with open arms since day one. Due to the coaching change and other events that led to this decision, I have decided to request a release from my NLI to Georgetown University. I will be opening my recruitment to all schools. Please respect my decision.”

Marvel Allen was also a one-time LSU pledge, before backing out of his commitment after Will Wade was fired.
Allen ranks as the No. 147 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the nation’s No. 34 shooting guard and the No. 14 player in the state of Florida.
Scouting Report
“Marvel Allen has a strong frame with good length. He plays with a confidence and a has a bounce about him. Allen has a good basketball sense. He sees the floor and he is confident on the ball. His athleticism is a question and he needs to develop the mechanics and consistency of his jump shot. Allen is a solid team defender, he has natural instincts and understands angles and footwork.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
