Shamar Porter has officially committed to UConn out of the transfer portal.

Porter made the announcement that he’d be joining the Huskies on social media on Sunday.

Porter redshirted in his lone season at Kentucky after not appearing for the Wildcats last fall.

Porter entered the portal twice this offseason. He originally entered after the season on December 4th but withdrew four days later on December 8th. However, after the spring, he decided to re-enter on April 22nd. He actually left Lexington this time around, though, with this news coming two weeks later.

Porter played high school football at Ensworth as a native of Nashville, Tennessee. He was a four-star prospect there as the No. 285 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also rated as the No. 40 WR and the No. 5 player out of his state.

With this decision, Porter, one of 22 transfers to leave Kentucky this offseason, is now the 12th to commit to a new program. Of those 22 total, 13 are from the offensive side of the ball. Five of those, including Porter, are receivers along with Dekel Crowdus (Hawaii) as well as Darius Cannon, Raymond Cottrell, and Ardell Banks.

As for Connecticut, they’ve lost 24 players to the portal over the course of the offseason. Of those departures, 14 were from the offensive unit and six of those were pass-catchers. That includes their two leading receivers from a season ago in TE Justin Joly (NC State), who caught 56 passes for 578 yards and a pair of scores, and WR Cameron Ross (James Madison), who posted 44 receptions for 552 yards and two more touchdowns.

Porter is now the 22nd portal addition for the Huskies. 10 of those are for the offense with over half of those being receivers. TJ Sheffield (Purdue), Skyler Bell (Wisconsin), Jasaiah Gathings (Akron), Keegan Jones (UCLA), and Jayden Brown (Gardner-Webb) also decided to come to Storrs.
