Former Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire had some harsh words for Ohio State quarterback Will Howard going into the national championship game.

Zaire played for Notre Dame from 2013-16 and finished his career at Florida in 2017. After going undrafted in 2018, Zaire did not make an NFL roster.

Since then, he’s had a media career and has worked for CBS Sports as a color commentator so naturally, he had a take about Howard.

“All the great QBs Ohio State has had the last 15 yrs and Howard is def the worst one by far and (Ohio State) fans are trying to convince me that he’s gonna lead them to the chip?!?! Lmao ok I’d even take the OG Jalin Marshall at QB before Howard!!!!!!!!,” Zaire wrote on Twitter.

Howard might not measure up to previous NFL Draft prospects Justin Fields or CJ Stroud in recent years under Ryan Day. But, he’s been nowhere near bad this season.

Based on the numbers alone, Howard’s having a career year with Ohio State. Following four years with Kansas State, Howard saved his best for last.

Going into the College Football Playoff national championship, Howard has 3,779 yards, 33 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 72.6% completion percentage. He also has 169 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.

Regardless of opinion, Howard, Day and company have a chance to win Ohio State’s first title in 10 years.

“It’s an honor for our team to be representing Ohio State in the National Championship game this year. We’re excited to be going back down to Atlanta,” Day said Sunday. “They have a great venue there and certainly a great opponent in Notre Dame.

“Our players are excited about preparation, and just like we’ve said, this will be our fourth time now doing this in the college football playoffs. We have to wipe the slate clean and have a great week of preparation.”
