Former Oklahoma All-American Gerald McCoy makes recruiting pitch to 5-star DL David Stone
Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy five-star defensive lineman David Stone is among the most sought-after prospects in the country.
But two teams have emerged as co-contenders in his recruitment: Oklahoma and Michigan State. The Sooners have been recruiting him for multiple years now, as Stone is a native of Oklahoma City and played his first two years of high school football there.
The Spartans, however, have become a major force in their pursuit of him. Led by head coach Mel Tucker, Michigan State has made East Lansing feel like ‘home’ for Stone despite it being hundreds of miles away from Oklahoma.
One of the biggest selling points for Tucker was assistant coach and pass-rush specialist Brandon Jordan, who joined MSU’s staff last fall and has developed some of the top defensive linemen in the country. Jordan is leaving East Lansing to coach for the Seattle Seahawks though, and the Sooners are looking to take advantage.
On Monday morning, former Oklahoma All-American defensive lineman and NFL Pro Bowler Gerald McCoy made his pitch to Stone after news of Jordan’s departure broke.

Spartans hold lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine
As it stands today, Michigan State still holds a slight lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) for Stone. But Jordan leaving could have a significant impact as Oklahoma and other schools look to make their way to the top of his list.
In an interview with SpartanMag.com, Stone said the love he has for Michigan State is the same, even with Jordan gone.
“I wish him nothing but the best moving forward,” Stone said. “I am shocked but I am happy for him and the love I have for MSU remains the same. Go Green!”
Stone has announced his plans to take official visits to MSU, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin in the summer.
