Lubbock (Texas) Lubbock-Cooper four-star linebacker Kobie McKinzie decommitted from Oklahoma on Sunday.
Two days later, the Sooners bitter rival Texas entered the mix for McKinzie and extended an offer.
McKinzie is the No. 181 overall recruit in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies
He was the first player in the 2022 recruiting class to decommit from the Sooners after Lincoln Riley left the program for USC.

“First of all I would like to thank the University of Oklahoma for recruiting me and allowing me to pursue my dreams at the next level,” Kobie McKinzie said Sunday night on Twitter. “With all of the coaching changes, and not being sure of who the next coach is going to be, I am going to decommit from the University of Oklahoma. This doesn’t chance how I feel about OU and Norman. They are both amazing.”
Los Alamitos (Calif.) Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Malachi Nelson, Miami Gardens (Fla.) American Heritage four-star wide receiver Brandon Inniss and Jacksonville Trinity Christian Academy four-star running back Treyaun Webb, Los Alamitos (Calif.) four-star athlete Makai Lemon, Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy four-star defensive lineman Derrick Moore and Orange (Texas) West-Orange Stark four-star interior offensive lineman Demetrius Hunter all also decommitted from the Sooners over the last few days.
McKinzie is believed to be considering USC, Texas and Texas Tech.
He was named one of 16 seminfinalists for the 2021 High School Butkus Award, which is awarded to the best linebacker in the country, earlier this month but did not make the final list.
