Former Oklahoma quarterback General Booty commits to ULM

Quarterback General Booty has committed to ULM out of the NCAA transfer portal, he announced via Instagram on Wednesday afternoon. Booty previously played for the Oklahoma Sooners but will now continue his college career in Monroe.

“Extremely excited to go to work with my new teammates at The University of Louisiana Monroe! I’m coming home,” Booty said. “Let’s go!”

Booty spent two seasons in Norman with the Sooners, appearing in two games. One was during the 2022 TCU game when Oklahoma dealt with multiple quarterback injuries. The next was against Arkansas State this past year in the season opener. No statistics were recorded on either occasion.

Plenty of stats pop up when looking at Booty’s time in JUCO. While at Tyler Junior College, Booty threw for 3,115 yards and 25 TDs during the 2021 season. Both of those led the NJCAA and when head coach Brent Venables needed some stability in his quarterback room, Booty was one of his calls.

After entering the transfer portal this offseason, multiple Group of Five programs reached out. On3’s Pete Nakos thought it would come down to ULM and Samford but Tulsa and UTSA expressed interest as well.

“The fun thing about General Booty too is, like, he’s a baller,” Nakos said on May 3. “He threw for 3,000 yards at Tyler Junior College before he got to Oklahoma. This guy is a baller. Now I guess we’re going to have a battle over Samford and Louisiana-Monroe.”

One Power Five program did have contact with Booty during his recruitment. Nakos reported the Iowa Hawkeyes gave Booty the opportunity to be a backup to Cade McNamara this season before competing for the starting job before the 2025 season.

Ultimately, ULM won out and Booty is likely to be the starter for the Warhawks. He will face off against two big-named programs this season, with one being a familiar face. The Texas Longhorns will welcome ULM to Austin on Sept. 21. Maybe there is some extra motivation there for the quarterback coming from Oklahoma.

And then a week before Thanksgiving, Auburn will play host to ULM. Two big stages for Booty to make a name for himself on the field while already being an NIL star off of it.

Per the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings, Booty was the 2,192 player available this cycle. It’s a little better when looking at just quarterbacks, coming at No. 151.
