Former Oklahoma, Texas WR Brenen Thompson signs with Mississippi State
Former Oklahoma and Texas wide receiver Brenen Thompson has found a new home in the SEC. Thompson has signed with Mississippi State, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
The former four-star recruit signed with Texas out of high school, then spent two seasons at Oklahoma. He is now staying in the SEC and headed to Mississippi State.
Thompson was ranked as a four-star recruit, the No. 17 wide receiver and No. 101 overall player in the country in the class of 2022, per the On3 Industry Rankings.
As a freshman at Texas he played in nine games, finishing the year with one catch for 32 yards. Following the 2022 season, Thompson transferred to Oklahoma.
During his first season with the Sooners in 2023, Thompson was banged up the first half of the season but ended up appearing in six games, making five starts. He finished the year with seven catches for 241 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 34.4 yards per reception.
Thompson appeared in 11 games for Oklahoma in 2024. He caught 19 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns. Now he is off to play for former Sooners offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, who is currently the head coach at Mississippi State.

Brenen Thompson not the only receiver transfer
The Sooners have had multiple receivers either enter the NCAA transfer portal or make plans to in recent days.
Along with Brenen Thompson, Oklahoma wide receiver Andrel Anthony plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Anthony spent two years with the program after beginning his playing days at Michigan. He will now go through the portal process for the second time in his career, hoping to find a new home.
Wide receiver injuries plagued Oklahoma all season and Anthony was right in the middle of it. He played in just one game this season, having one catch for four yards. This was after going through a rehab process all offseason following a knee injury suffered in 2023 against Texas.
Anthony could not catch a break when it came to staying healthy. Wherever his next stop, making sure he can stay on the field has to be a big priority in his remaining years of eligibility.
