Former On3 Consensus five-star Kingsley Suamataia makes transfer commitment
Former Oregon offensive lineman Kingsley Suamataia is headed to Provo.
Suamataia took to Twitter Friday morning to announce he’s transferring to BYU and has signed a name, image and likeness deal with a Utah-based solar energy company. He is a former five-star recruit, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Suamataia was the No. 1 recruit in the state of Utah out of high school from the class of 2021 and chose Oregon over plenty of big names, including Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State. He was also the No. 20 recruit in the country and the nation’s No. 5 offensive lineman, according to the On3 Consensus.
The 6-foot-5, 280-pound Suamataia is a native of Orem, Utah — just 13 miles from Provo and BYU. He’s heading home.
Suamataia only played in one game this season — Sept. 18 against Stony Brook, an FCS school. He entered the transfer portal last week and didn’t take long to decide where he was going.
Oregon is the No. 4 team in the country this season, according to the first College Football Playoff rankings. The Ducks are 7-1 overall and 4-1 in Pac-12 play. They had a huge non-conference win over Ohio State in Columbus, but fell to Stanford on Oct. 2. Still, it’s been a great year for Mario Cristobal’s group.
BYU is also having a solid season, going 7-2 so far and coming in at No. 15 in the CFP rankings. The Cougars are getting ready to take on Idaho State this week at home.

The No. 32 overall player in the class of 2021, Suamataia played in just one game for the Ducks this season. The 6-6, 317-pound freshman dealt with injury issues early in the fall and has not found consistent playing time with the Ducks.

Michigan prepared to offer No. 1 recruit $10.5M over 4 years
On Oregon’s latest depth chart, he was listed as the backup left tackle along with Dawson Jaramillo, but did not see game action Saturday after a slew of offensive linemen suffered injuries early in the game.
According to 247Sports, Suamataia is the 15th-highest-ranked recruit to ever sign with Oregon. He is the top recruit of Oregon’s 2021 class.
Suamataia held offers from Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and many others out of high school.
When a player enters the transfer portal, it means they are exploring options but does not confirm they are leaving the school. A player is free to withdraw their name from the portal.
