Texas transfer cornerback Terrance Brooks commits to Illinois
After announcing his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal on April 26, former Texas cornerback Terrance Brooks has made the decision on his next destination. With On3’s Hayes Fawcett reporting his commitment to Illinois on Sunday.
Brooks joins the Fighting Illini after spending the first two seasons of his collegiate career with the Longhorns, where he appeared in 23 games with 19 starts after being a highly touted high school recruit and was also a coveted transfer portal prospect.
Brooks played high school football at Little Elm High School in Texas, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 56 overall recruit and the No. 7 ranked cornerback in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
But after entering the NCAA transfer portal this offseason, Brooks was a four-star college prospect ranked as the No. 81 overall player and the No. 10 cornerback available in the portal this offseason according to On3’s College Football Transfer Portal Top Player Rankings.
Brooks played in nine games with three starts in his true freshman year with Texas, recording nine tackles and three pass breakups in the first college season of his career. Highlighted by a four-tackle performance on his first career start versus No. 4 TCU and two pass breakups in the season finale versus No. 12 Washington in the Alamo Bowl.

This past season Brooks earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors after starting in all but one of his 14 game appearances. Logging 20 tackles, three interceptions, and six pass breakups, all career highs in a breakout sophomore season for the Texas native.
The talented 6-foot tall, 190-pound cornerback represented a big loss for the Longhorns and a major addition for Illinois head coach Bret Bielema as he enters his fourth season at the helm for the Fighting Illini. With Brooks becoming the eighth player to join Illinois this offseason through the transfer portal and the 25th to depart from the Longhorns program.
Brooks joins Illinois with two seasons of eligibility remaining, committing to the program despite having upcoming visits with schools like Michigan and USC slated in the near future following a visit to Champaign over the weekend.
