Former Wake Forest quarterback Mitch Griffis commits to Texas Tech
Former Wake Forest quarterback Mitch Griffis is returning to college football and will play at Texas Tech in 2025, he announced on Tuesday.
Griffis last played college football in 2023 when he threw for 1,553 yards and 9 touchdowns, with 7 interceptions for the Demon Deacons. He entered the transfer portal after the 2023 season and committed to play at Marshall. However, he ended up stepping away from football.
Now Mitch Griffis is returning to football and will play for Texas Tech next season. He made the announcement on Twitter.
Mitch Griffis signed with Wake Forest as a three-star recruit in the class of 2020, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He appeared in four games in both 2020 and 2021.
During the 2022 season, Griffis appeared in six games and made the first start of his career. He was 29 of 41 passing for 348 yard and 5 touchdowns, with 1 interception that season as he saw his first real playing time.
In 2023, Griffis started nine games for Wake Forest and had a solid year before entering the transfer portal. He will now look to compete for the starting quarterback job at Texas Tech.

Miami (OH) transfer WR Reggie Virgil commits to Texas Tech
In addition to Mitch Griffis, Texas Tech is also bringing in former Miami (OH) receiver Reggie Virgil from the transfer portal.
Virgil caught 41 passes for 816 yards and nine touchdowns in 2024. He has one year of eligibility remaining for his college career.
Virgil chose Texas Tech over more than a dozen offers in the portal.
Among the schools that offered Virgil are Oklahoma, UTSA, Texas Tech, Pitt, Florida, Michigan State, Florida State, Miami, UCF, Illinois, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Arkansas, and Michigan. It has also recently been reported that he will be taking a visit at Oklahoma. Another report has Virgil visiting Florida.
