Former Washington DT Sam Taimani announces transfer commitment to Pac-12 rival
Former Washington defensive tackle Sam “Taki” Taimani has a new home. The former four-star recruit is heading to Oregon, he announced Thursday.
Taimani entered the transfer portal last month after four years with the Huskies. After taking a redshirt and with the extra COVID-19 year, he could have two years of eligibility left if he wants.
In his three full years with the Huskies, he had 71 total tackles, including 28 solo tackles, with two passes defended and two tackles for loss. His best year was this season when he had 43 total tackles.
He was a four-star recruit out of high school and ranked as the No. 26 defensive tackle from the class of 2018, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Washington went 4-8 this season and underwent a coaching change mid-year. Former Huskies coach Jimmy Lake was fired last month, and Fresno State coach Kalen DeBoer is coming in to replace him.
Taimani joins an Oregon team that also underwent a coaching change. Mario Cristobal left the Ducks for Miami — his alma mater — and Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning is coming in. Even before he takes the role full-time, he picked up a big recruiting victory Thursday.
Oregon went 10-4 this season and lost to Ohio State in a thrilling Rose Bowl shootout on New Year’s Day. Taimani isn’t the only nice portal get for the Ducks, though. They also landed former Auburn quarterback Bo Nix, which was quite a boost to their quarterback room.

Report: Oregon quarterback set to enter transfer portal
The Oregon quarterback room will be taking a hit, despite the recent addition of former Auburn star Bo Nix.
Robby Ashford plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal in the next 24 hours, per Yahoo! Sports’ Pete Thamel. A former four-star recruit in the class of 2020, he was a top-25 quarterback and top-350 prospect.
The 6-foot-4, 219-pound quarterback is also a two-sport athlete, playing on the Oregon baseball team. In two seasons in Eugene, the Ashford did not attempt a pass. This season he was stuck behind starter Anthony Brown and a pair of freshman quarterbacks Ty Thompson and Jay Butterfield.
With the recent addition of Nix, Ashford was facing an uphill climb to earning snaps with Oregon next season and thus, he enters the transfer portal
