West Virginia transfer wide receiver EJ Horton commits to FAU

Former West Virginia wide receiver EJ Horton has committed to Florida Atlantic, On3 has learned.

Horton lands at the third destination of his college career after signing with Marshall out of high school. Spending three seasons with the Thundering Herd and one with West Virginia before entering the transfer portal once again. Deciding to play for the Owls in Boca Raton under Tom Herman for the final season of his college career.

After making one game appearance and redshirting in his freshman season, Horton played in six games in 2021. Recording four catches for 59 yards and a touchdown before taking a jump the following year. Appearing in in 12 games and making starts in the final four contests of the season where he caught a career-high 12 passes for 186 yards and one score before deciding to enter the transfer portal.

After committing Colorado ahead of the 2023 season, Horton flipped his commitment to West Virginia. Appearing in 12 games and ending the season with 10 catches, a career-high 201 yards, and again one touchdown.

Horton played high school football at Palmetto Academy in Charleston (SC), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 2,402 overall recruit and the No. 354 ranked wide receiver in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The Owls continue to add offensive players to their squad through the transfer portal, with Horton joining former Buffalo wide receiver Marlyn Johnson, former Florida State running back CJ Campbell, and quarterbacks Kasen Weisman and Cam Fancher. With the latter being a former teammate of Horton’s at Marshall.

Horton represents the 21st player to enter the transfer portal this offseason out of West Virginia, but the Mountaineers have also added nine players to their roster through the portal.
