4-star defensive lineman Sydir Mitchell names top 9 schools
Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic defensive lineman Sydir Mitchell is down to nine schools, he announced Sunday afternoon.
Mitchell is the No. 302 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 41 defensive lineman and the No. 5 junior prospect in state of New Jersey.
Among his top nine are: Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Miami, Rutgers, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M.
“Recruiting has been going crazy lately,” Mitchell recently told The Wolverine’s EJ Holland. “It’s really been buzzing. I think I picked up like six offers recently. But after this month, I want to settle things down. I want to release a top schools list and narrow it down.”

In the past two months, Mitchell has received offers from Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M. And all of those schools made his top list. He visited the Aggies, Longhorns, Tigers (Auburn) and Georgia since March 1, and he told On3’s Chad Simmons last month he plans to take an official visit to Georgia.
“Coach Scott is a coach I have a great relationship with,” Mitchell told On3. “I got to watch Georgia practice, so I saw coach Scott work. He is fast, he is into practice, and he is really into it with his players. I like his personality and his style of coaching.”
One notable school missing from his top group was Michigan, which Sydir Mitchell told Simmons was going to be another one of his official visits. Instead, he’ll look to lock in more official visits — likely for this summer — before a decision.
