Four-Star DL Johnny Bowens narrows list, sets commitment date
Four-star defensive lineman Johnny Bowens of Converse (TX) Judson High is down to three schools– Oregon, Texas A&M, and Texas.
The 6-foot-4, 275 pounder will announce his college decision on Thanksgiving day.
Bowens sent a statement to On3 regarding his top schools and commitment date:
I want to thank all of the coaches and support staff across the country for recruiting me along my journey. I have built some relationships I will always cherish. However, at this time, I would like to release a Top 3 so I can solely focus my attention on these three great programs before I make my final decision. My Final 3 are Texas A&M, Oregon, and Texas.
Texas A&M
First off, Texas A&M is a school I’m very familiar with – as I was once previously committed. I have a lot of respect for the University and all of the traditions. The Aggie Fanbase are very passionate fans and are a very strong community. It is the in-state school that consistently stood out to me throughout my recruitment. If I end up deciding I want to stay close to home, that is the school I will be choosing. I have built good relationships with a lot of the current players and current recruits in the state. That would make it feel comfortable to go there.
Oregon
Secondly, Oregon is a school that continues to impress me with the direction of the football program under first-year HC Coach Lanning. The connection and relationships I have with not only Coach Lanning, but with the entire coaching/support staff are truly special. I believe Coach Lanning is the best defensive mind in the country. If were to go there, I know he would be able to develop my skill set to help me reach my dream of becoming a 1st RD pick. He has proven he has been able to do so throughout his career. It is also a plus that Oregon is recruiting a lot of kids in the state of Texas, so that is intriguing to me as well.
Texas
Texas, to me, I feel like coach Davis is a good coach and I like the atmosphere, the fans, and I feel love out there.
These are tremendous options for my career, and I can not wait to let the world know where I will be spending the next 3-4 years of my life on Thanksgiving Day. Stay Tuned.
Bowens ranks as the No. 270 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 35 defensive lineman and the No. 50 player in the state of Texas.
