Madison (Miss.) Ridgeland Academy four-star point guard Josh Hubbard tells On3 he will take an official visit to Mississippi State on September 16-17. This will be his second official visit to Starkville, as he also tripped earlier this summer in June. Hubbard is scheduled to announce his college decision on September 22nd, less than a week after he returns home from visiting the Bulldogs.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Hubbard is also heavily considering Ole Miss. The Rebels officially hosted him in September of 2021, as well as unofficially in June of 2021. Hubbard also has Houston, USC, Xavier, and Seton Hall on his list but without visiting those programs, this will likely come down to an in-state battle between Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Both schools are roughly two hours away from his home in Madison.

Hubbard ranks as the No. 92 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus. He is also ranked as the No. 16 point guard in the class and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Mississippi.

Hubbard breaks down his schools

Mississippi State: “Coach (Chris) Jans at Mississippi State continued my scholarship when he got the job and has great plans for the program and would love for me to be apart of it.”

Ole Miss: “Ole Miss is a program that was one of my first offers and Coach Kermit Davis has been recruiting me since 9th grade.”

USC: “Eric Mobley and Andy Enfield watched me at Peach Jam. Coach Mobley offered me days later after he liked how I performed.”

Houston: “Coach Q (Quannas White) at the University of Houston heard about me and we built a relationship since then. As soon as he offered me a scholarship, told me his plans about the program’s future.”

Xavier: Coach (Sean) Miller is the head coach at Xavier and reached out to me one day after seeing me at a tournament this summer.”

Seton Hall: “Seton Hall offered me this summer after a game. Coach (Shaheen) Hollaway is also the new coach for the program and he told me he loved my game.”

Scouting Summary

Josh Hubbard is a strong-framed, tough-minded guard. He can touch the paint at any point in the possession and has the balance and sturdy frame to take a bump and not get knocked off course. He is an explosive and crafty finisher at the basket. Hubbard can get tunnel vision to the basket, but he showed improved vision this summer as a willing passer with talent around him. Defensively, Hubbard has quick, active hands and can defend full court. Think along the lines of a Will Bynum archetype.
