Four-star LB Shemar James decommits from Florida

Days after visiting Georgia, Mobile (Ala.) Faith Academy linebacker Shemar James decommitted from the Florida Gators. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound James had been committed to Florida since June.
“First I’d like to thank Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior for putting me in this position and the staff at the University of Florida for welcoming me with open arms,” James stated on his personal Twitter account. “This was a tough decision for me and my mom to make, but I will be de-committing from the University of Florida to open my recruitment back up.”
Georgia and Alabama have both continued to recruit James even after his commitment in June.
The 107th overall ranked player in On3’s top 300 for the class of 2022 commented on the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs’ pursuit in an interview a few weeks ago.
“I plan on going to a UF game, going to visit Tuscaloosa, and going up to Athens to watch Georgia play,” James said. “I’m not thinking about that (decommitting) right now. I’m just enjoying the moment. I feel like I’ve worked hard to have this opportunity to pick and choose what school is best for me and what’s best for me. It’s good. I’ve been watching a lot of film with the coaches and stuff.”

James was in Athens last Saturday to watch the Bulldogs roll over Kentucky. Georiga left an impression on James after Saturday.
“My visit to Georgia was amazing and I loved the atmosphere,” James told On3’s national recruiting director Chad Simmons. “I felt so much love and I had a special time up there.”
James plans on returning to Athens for an official when Georgia hosts Missouri on Nov. 6 according to Simmons.
