Monroe Freeling is down to five schools & set his commitment date.

Four-star offensive tackle Monroe Freeling of Mount Pleasant (SC) has narrowed his list to five schools– Clemson, Miami, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama.

The 6-foot-4, 250 pounder will announce his college decision on Monday, August 29th.

Freeling went in-depth on his finalists.

Clemson

“I’ve had a good relationship with them ever since they offered me last June,” Freeling said. “Coach Swinney doesn’t seem like he is slowing down any time soon. I have a good relationship with Coach Austin, and I am excited to see how he does this season with new coaching role.”

Miami

“Miami always seemed interesting to me just because of the history of the school’s football program, as well as their academics,” Freeling said. “They recruited me very lightly before Coach Cristobal got the job. But as soon as he got the job, he and the staff spared no time to hit me up. I really enjoyed the energy they have up there; it’s really unique. Coach Cristobal being an OL guy really helps too, he’s a great guy and coach; Coach Mirabal too!”

Georgia

“They were one of the first schools to offer me back at the beginning of my sophomore year,” Freeling said. “Though they have gone through coaching changes, they hired coach Searels who I had a good relationship with when he was at UNC. Not to mention them being national champions!”

Florida

“I really enjoyed my time in Florida when I went down there,” Freeling said. “The campus was really pretty and they have great academics. Coach Sale and I have a good relationship and I think that Florida is heading in the right direction!”

Alabama

“Coach Wolf recruited me through his transitions from South Carolina, to Kentucky, and now Alabama,” Freeling said. “The loyalty is there and I respect it, not to mention Alabama just being Alabama. They were worth the consideration from their legacy, and that’s how they joined my recruitment.”

Monroe Freeling Scouting Summary

“Physically-gifted offensive tackle prospect who pairs an elite frame with high-end athleticism,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Has grown to around 6-foot-7, 285 pounds prior to his senior season. Has plus length to go with the stature, checking in with a 7-foot wing-span. Also a top athlete at the position. A fluid, flexible mover on the field. Moves as well as any top offensive lineman in the cycle. Tests very well in the combine setting and is a dunker on the hardwood. At his best as a second level run blocker at this stage. Still developing from a technical standpoint. Needs to improve his pass set technique and functional play strength. Physical traits and continued growth potential point to a high ceiling.”

Freeling ranks as the No. 64 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No.6 offensive tackle and the No. 1 player in the state of South Carolina.
