Four-star S Marvin Burks includes Texas A&M in Top Five, sets commitment date
2023 St. Louis (Mo.) Cardinal Ritter College Prep four-star safety Marvin Burks Jr. is down to five schools: Ole Miss, Missouri, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas A&M, and has set a commitment date of Oct. 21.
The four-star, who ranks in the On300, has taken visits to Missouri and Ole Miss thus far this season, and took official visits to both schools over the summer, along with a third official visit to Texas A&M.
The Aggies didn’t offer Burks until February, but the program quickly ascended up his list of offers because of relationships he has within the program.
““A&M is a school that plays a big factor for me,” he previously told Aggie Scoop. “My boy, AJ [Antonio Johnson] he’s playing the nickel position and he’s just excelling there. A lot of people compare me to him, so I feel I can excel there.”
The four-star, who stands 6-foot-2, 181 pounds is seen as a hybrid defensive back in the next level, similar to Johnson and can fit in a multitude of roles in the secondary.
“I’m really just a hybrid,” he said. “I can play anywhere you want to put me and I feel like that’s something that I like about my game: I can play everywhere.”
With a decision now just days away, Burks previously noted to Aggie Scoop what he’s looking for in a program.

“Everyone’s going to have great fit facilities, but I’m just looking a coaching staff that makes me feel comfortable,” he said. “And then the strength and conditioning coaches, because that’s who I’m going to be with the most.”
He added.
“Playing time early and just somewhere I feel home, an atmosphere where I can thrive at,” he said. “That’s what’s going to play a big part.”
Texas A&M remains a contender, but due to the Aggies’ own board at the position, and Burks desire to stay somewhat close to home, his recent gameday visit to Ole Miss has the Rebels surging days away from his commitment. Per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Lane Kiffin and Co. have a 92.2% chance to land the four-star, with Missouri trailing in second.
Burks ranks as the No. 337 prospect and No. 30 safety in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks even higher in the updated On300 as the No. 225 prospect and No. 17 safety in the country. Burks has an NIL Valuation of $14.4K. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
