Marlin (Texas) EDGE Derion Gullette is down to 12 schools, he announced Friday afternoon on Twitter.

Gullette is the No. 171 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 21 EDGE and the No. 28 junior prospect in Texas.

The Industry Comparison shows On3 is drastically higher on Gullette than the other major three major recruiting sites. In the most recent On300, Gullette was tabbed as the country’s No. 54 prospect, No. 8 EDGE and No. 9 player in the Lone Star State.

Among his top 12 are: Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M and USC.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder made a huge jump in the previous On300 rankings, something On3 Senior National Recruiting Analyst Gerry Hamilton noted at the time.

“Gullette is a jack-of-all-trades for Marlin High playing wide receiver, inside linebacker, outside linebacker, and even some snaps at quarterback in 2020,” Hamilton wrote. “Gullette was a monster on Friday nights last season. He totaled 125 tackles, two interceptions and 1,458 receiving yards with 14 touchdowns. Texas A&M and Texas are battling the likes of Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Alabama to keep the fast rising four-star home.”

Derion Gullette has become a major priority in the 2023 class

Gullette has been busy on the recruiting trail this spring. He took visits to Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Alabama and LSU since the beginning of March. The in-state schools are ahead of the pack to land him, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). It gives Texas A&M a 55.5 percent chance of securing Gullette’s commitment, with Texas in second at 21.9 percent.

Originally from Alabama, Gullette has strong ties to the state and told On3’s Tim Verghese the Crimson Tide have ramped up their recruitment of him this spring. The junior’s in no rush to make a decision, though. He is looking to announce either ahead of his senior season or early in the fall. When it comes time to make a decision, relationships will be the key.

“So what I’m looking for in the school is a place where it feels like home,” he said. “A place where I know I could go in and be developed as a man and as a person, also be on a great football team and also have a great education too.”
