Havelock (N.C.) tight end Javonte Vereen is down to three schools, he announced Friday on Twitter.

Vereen is the No. 203 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 14 tight end and the No. 6 junior prospect in North Carolina.

The Industry Comparison shows On3 is a good bit higher on Vereen than the rest of the industry, tabbing him as the country’s No. 123 overall prospect, No. 6 tight end and No. 4 player in North Carolina.

Included in his final three are a trio of ACC programs: Louisville, Maryland and N.C. State.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder has been to N.C. State on multiple occasions, and the Wolf Pack are considered to be the heavy favorites to land him, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. It gives N.C. State a 91.0 percent chance of securing Vereen’s commitment.

N.C. State impressed Javonte Vereen on January visit

He tripped there in January and caught up with On3’s The Wolfpacker after his visit.

“They are definitely in my top five, and honestly my top two at the moment,” Vereen said. … “Not only do they want to coach you, but they also want to have a lifelong relationship with you. One of the things Coach Goebbel said to me is they will put all the tools in my box for me to be successful. That really touched me. All these other schools have promised me – and I know it’s not true – that I can definitely come in my freshman year and start. But he (Goebbel) kept it real. He told me he will give me the opportunity and if I work I can play my freshman year. He told me the truth.”

As a junior last season, he caught 39 passes for 1,050 yards and 15 touchdowns on offense, while also contributing 45 tackles and two interceptions on defense. He plans to make his commitment decision by the middle of his senior season.
