4-star wide receiver Karmello English names top 5 schools
Phenix City (Ala.) Central wide receiver Karmello English is down to five schools, he announced Monday on Twitter.
English is the No. 127 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 23 wide receiver and the No. 12 junior in Alabama.
Among his top five are two in-state schools — Alabama and Auburn — as well as Florida, Kentucky and Penn State.
English chose those five from more than a dozen offers, but according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), one school is standing above the rest right now. The RPM gives Auburn a 78.6 percent chance to secure English’s commitment, with Alabama trailing in second at 11.6 percent.
Auburn making Karmello English a major priority
He is fresh off a visit to Auburn this weekend, and he also saw the Tigers last month as well. English had a strong bond with former Auburn wide receivers coach Cornelius Williams. Auburn plummeted down English’s board after Williams was fired mid-season. But he’s rebuilding the bond while also getting to know new wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard, a longtime NFL veteran.

“(The visit) showed me a different — I feel like it’s a different type of love from being around Coach Ike, keeping it real with me, basically,” English told AuburnLive. “Showing me a lot, it put Auburn in a different spot from where I had them from last time.”
Alabama, meanwhile, has a few other wide receiver targets higher on their board than English. And according to BamaBCS’ Joseph Hastings, whether they have a shot at him depends on if they want one.
“His recruitment could come down to how hard Alabama pushes for him,” Hastings wrote last week. “His inclusion here is more so a projection of the Crimson Tide likely striking out on other targets and circling back to English down the line, potentially after he camps in the summer.
