Four-star wide receiver Jaquaize Pettaway of Houston (TX) Langham Creek announced his commitment to Oklahoma Wednesday afternoon.

The 6-foot, 176 pounder chose the Sooners over Texas.

Pettaway on why he chose Oklahoma

“I felt like coach Venables is a very good guy, and I like how they focus on the players,” Pettaway said. “I feel like I can run that offense with coach Lebby there.”

Jaquaize Pettaway on relationship with Jackson Arnold and coaches

“I feel like me and all of the coaches have a good connection, and for the offensive coordinator to tell me himself how he could use me, makes me want to be a Sooner,” Pettaway said.

“I talk to Jackson (QB1), he’s a cool dude,” Pettaway said. “For sure, I can call myself a recruiter; I’ve been talking to this other fast guy, but I’m not saying any names but it’s a big time dude!”

He joins coach Brent Venables and the Sooners’ top 25 class in the 2023 team rankings alongside Jackson Arnold, Keyon Brown, and others.

Jaquaize Pettaway Scouting Summary

“Speedy wideout who has dynamic ability to win in the slot or as a textbook Z-receiver,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Possesses rare top-end speed. Consistently takes the top off of defenses. A threat to score anytime he touches the ball in the quick game or as a return man. Ran an elite 100m and 200m at 10.41 and 20.81, respectively, during his junior track season. Jumped close to 23 feet in the long jump as well.”

“Tracks the ball over his shoulder on vertical routes. Smooth route runner with an extensive route tree. Slighter build, lacks ideal body density. Does not appear to have a large catch radius. Can slap at the ball at times, but can be improved with ease. High floor prospect who has the chance to become a consistent threat at the next level if he can clean up his ball skills. Older for the class, turning 18 years old during his junior season.”

Pettaway ranks as the No. 62 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 10 wide receiver and the No. 11 player in the state of Texas.
