Former Furman defensive back Ivan Yates has committed to Colorado, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Yates spent four seasons with the Paladins.

In the 2023 campaign, Yates played in all 13 games, tallying a career-high 40 tackles, one tackle for loss and five passes defended. Yates recorded two tackles in Furman’s loss to South Carolina on Sept. 9.

In four years with the Paladins, Yates amassed 37 appearances for 93 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, one sacks, one interceptions and 13 passes defended. Yates entered the transfer portal on Dec. 14.

Ivan Yates played high school football at Roswell High School (GA), where he was an unranked prospect in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Yates initially committed to Furman from among 16 offers, including FBS members SMU, Air Force, Liberty, and South Alabama. Yates is the 36th player Colorado has added in the transfer portal during or since the 2023 campaign, earning the No. 1 spot in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

Deion Sanders not worried about transfer portal losses

Of course, Colorado hasn’t only enjoyed wins this offseason. The program has also lost 44 players in the transfer portal.

While many fans have panicked about Colorado’s substantial losses in the portal, head coach Deion Sanders never worried. Earlier this month, the NFL Hall-of-Famer addressed the program’s substantial transfer departures.

“I wish you guys do a little more homework when you start talking about the portal and understand what we losing, What are we losing? I got time today,” Sanders said. “What are we losing? Potential? Where? You haven’t been watching practice have you? We good. We’re good.

“I trust the recruiting team,” Sanders said. “I trust that coaches and please have some faith in me. We aight. We alright. What happens with the portal man, and you guys need to know, a lot of people are fighting for backups. When a guy is a starter and he transfers you got to really think about that. I mean, is he really that? I don’t know how many starters have really transferred around the country.”
